Supporting poor and marginalised people
The federal Republic of Brazil is more than two hundred times the size of Switzerland, with a population of around 180.7 million. The population is composed of various different ethnic groups. The country is marked by huge inequalities, which lead to migration flows within the country among other things. Brazil has a progressive constitution in terms of social policy, but its practical application frequently comes up against difficulties. Women, black people and the indigenous population are particularly hard hit by poverty. The main objectives of Fastenopfer’s work in Brazil are the fight against poverty, democratising the structures of society, promoting networking among those actively involved, and support for the local churches (particularly education programmes and supporting ecumenical organisations).
